Hearing about Reiki more and more these days, and still left wondering just what is it exactly?
Curious if Reiki is right for you or not?
Are you a Reiki practitioner that's struggling to describe Reiki to others, changing it every time?
Reiki is powerful and deeply meaningful to those who experience it firsthand, and most people recommend trying it above having to explain exactly what it is, shying away because they don't have the words to convey it clearly.
However, it's essential to have a clear definition of Reiki, and what it is not, because clarity itself is healing. When we as Reiki channels are unclear in communicating what Reiki is, it affects our ability to maintain the healthy state of flow, balance and centeredness that supports the best health of our clients and students.
Watch the above video to enter the discussion around "what is Reiki?" and to find out exactly how to answer that question with confidence and clarity!
OVERVIEW: What is Reiki?
There are million and one ways to describe Reiki
to someone who's never heard of it.
"Reiki is a form of natural energy healing or 'energywork'."
"Reiki is a spiritual healing art; it feels like an emotional and spiritual massage."
"Reiki is 'universal life force energy' that promotes healing in the body."
And still more versions. "Reiki is a form of 'palm healing' through the 'laying on of hands' and it is neither massage, prayer, yoga nor meditation." Or "Reiki is like qigong or pranayama. It's an ancient form of alternative healing rediscovered in Japan by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui in 1922 and he taught that zzzzzzzzzzzzz..."
And after you say all that to the person who just asked you a "simple question," the person looks at you like:
That awkward moment when they don't know Reiki/energy/newagey jargon...
Yeah. ...LOL!!
I've had the pleasure of this awkward moment quite a bit over the years! I've been asked the "what is Reiki?" question hundreds of times, from people of all walks of life who I meet at the fairs, festivals, seminars, speeches and classes I do.
This awkwardness is tough for both sides: I as the Reiki "Master" am garbled and confused, reaching for words to convey the value and power of Reiki to change someone's life, and the person listening is confused and straining to make sense of something completely new that their intuition is pulling them to faster than they can figure out what the heck it is.
So, to avoid this awkward feeling, most energyworkers--myself included--often choose to avoid a definition, and instead go for a demonstration. But awkward moments are signals for imminent healing.
To my energy people: look, I get it. You don't want to look stupid or unknowledgeable, so to avoid the rough spots and go with the path of least resistance, and either avoid defining what it is you do altogether, or you throw spaghetti on the wall and hope it will stick without regard to the other person because you "know" what you do, right?
Well... when you sidestep taking a good look at this issue, you miss out on gaining clarity for yourself. And clarity is healing.
You see, underneath this question of "what is Reiki?" and our struggle with answering it is this: a Throat Chakra imbalance.
Allowing awkward conversations shows that you have the courage to clear and balance any Throat Chakra issues you have.
Throat Chakra issues include: issues with communication, listening and self-expression. When it's depleted, the symptoms are fear of speaking up and expression oneself for fear of criticism, rejection or "sticking out", and when it's excessive, the symptoms are talking to hear yourself talk but not listening, or talking for fear of silence or fear of unworthiness.
Defining what you do and communicating it clearly is a key step in your soul's evolution as an energyworker and lightworker in this lifetime, whether you do Reiki or something else as your healing modality (entrepreneurship, parenting, art, teaching, etc.).
And when you find your light and shine it clear and bright, you give others permission to do the same.
Consider how on the other side of the fence, it is very healing for the person seeking clarification to witness someone being clear and grounded. This, therefore, is exactly why speaking in and of itself if a form of healing energywork.
Know this: Clarity is the biggest challenge for energyworkers and lightworkers. Accept and rise to it. #reiki #throatchakra #communication
Remember: you do not have to be perfect, all you have to ever be is Honest.
Now, I notice that this article has ended up being more for the developing energy and lightwork practitioners, but what about the rest of us that don't know what the heck Reiki is? Are you going to tell us yet, Victoria??
Sure. Here goes:
Reiki is a system of techniques for stress reduction and relaxation. It comes from Japan.
Bam. There you have it! Fifteen words and done.
But what about all the other spiritual, intuitive, juicy stuff that Reiki is? And is it right for me?
Watch this week's video for the Oracle Card of the Week, which shows you how to tell if Reiki is right for you and why!
