Meditation Tech of the Week: Psychic Shielding

Meditation Tech of the Week:
Psychic Shielding

It's good to have some psychic self defense tech in your repertoire for the times when people or places are actively nasty or harmful to you. Psychic shields protect you from the chaotic and negative energy around you coming from people, places, things and experiences.

NOTE: Keep in mind that defensive tech are the most effective only when you take care of cleansing and grounding your own energy first, otherwise you're just sealing and stewing in your own negativity.

To Psychically Shield Yourself:

  1. Using your imagination, inhale healing energy into your belly (you can picture white or golden light)
  2. As you exhale, feel the energy becoming more solid and circular in your body, until you feel a warmth or fullness in your belly
  3. Still inhaling healing energy, with each subsequent exhale see and feel the ball of light / energy begin to expand larger and larger, as if you were blowing up a balloon
  4. Continue this expanding breathing until the balloon totally surrounds you like a shield
  5. Optional: Imagine the outside of the bubble is made of mirror, so anything negative that comes at you bounces right back
  6. Also optional: Program this shield with an affirmation, such as "I am safe and calm"

I recommend using this technique proactively, before you walk into a troublesome situation or a crowded place, so you are prepared.

Students of mine have said they feel less burdened by other people's drama and emotions after cleansing and shielding. We all need that especially during this time of year!

Meditation Tech of the Week: The Body Scan

Meditation Tech of the Week:
The Body Scan

Continuing our series of foundational Meditation Techniques (or "tech"), the Body Scan deepens your Grounding Visualization (READ MORE) experience through use of progressive muscular relaxation and mindfulness.

To preform a Body Scan:

  1. Take a deep breath (to go inward mentally)
  2. As you exhale, notice how your body feels in general: your posture, areas of tension or stiffness, and areas of warmth
  3. Still breathing deeply, begin to mentally scan over your body slowly, starting with the top of your head, downward
  4. Be thorough; scan every muscle, organ and limb. The more specific you are, the better
  5. With each thing you scan, allow it to feel heavy or as if it was made of water
  6. Continue doing this to the tips of your toes - Extra credit: after this, imagine your hair, clothes and environment around you becoming heavy and liquid too

This technique is deeply relaxing, and great for aiding in falling asleep or coping with anxiety such as public speaking.

Students of mine have said they often never finish scanning the whole body because they are fast asleep. 🙂
